Sinai Conversation Partners

About Us

Sinai Conversation Partners works with the Libertas Center for Human Rights to provide free, one-on-one English conversation practice to survivors of torture. English practice is one of the most requested services at Libertas, and traditional group English classes can be challenging for survivors to attend in-person. Many of Libertas’s clients are unable to find work without sufficient English language skills and do not have a familial support system nearby to rely on. We connect Sinai students with Libertas clients not only to help develop language skills, but also to foster a sense of community in New York City. Interested tutors are connected directly with a Libertas client, taking into account any language skills students may have. You will work with your language partner to find a meeting time that fits both of your schedules, approximately one hour every week.
