Mount Sinai Students for Rare

About Us

Mount Sinai Students for Rare is a student group open to all medical and graduate students interested in rare diseases and patient advocacy. In partnership with the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), we provide opportunities for students to contribute to the NORD Rare Disease Database by researching and updating reports that patients and families rely on for accurate, accessible information. The group also engages in advocacy efforts and fundraising initiatives to support the rare disease community and raise awareness about the more than 7,000 rare diseases affecting individuals across the U.S. We also aim to educate the trainee community on how to better serve patients and families affected by rare diseases by introducing students to tools, resources, and networks available to them to help them feel confident in working with those affected by rare diseases.
