Sinai SIMS (Students Interested in Medical Simulation)

About Us

The mission of Sinai SIMS (Students Interested in Medical Simulation) is to enhance engagement with and investment in medical simulation at Mount Sinai. Our organization is founded on two key pillars: providing education on and expanding opportunities for hands-on, medical-based simulation. Through these efforts, we strive to establish medical simulation as an integral component of medical students’ learning at Mount Sinai.

Educational Development: Provide training on the fundamentals of medical simulation, including: scenario scripting and simulation management, effective debriefing techniques, and research methodologies related to simulation-based education.

Simulation Execution: Collaborate with Emergency Medicine and Anesthesiology departments to run simulations under the guidance of residents and attending physicians. Increase simulation opportunities for medical students, promoting skill development and practical learning. Additionally, we emphasize inter-class collaboration by creating environments where students across all years can participate together. This approach fosters mentorship, teamwork, and shared learning experiences.

Long-Term Goals: Collaborate across specialties to provide a wide range of simulations. Establish a sustainable framework for student-led simulation activities. Empower medical students to independently design, execute, and debrief simulations. Encourage M3s and M4s to train and mentor M1s and M2s in medical simulation practices and design. Contribute to a lasting culture of simulation-based education within the medical school. Collaborate with the Department of Medical Education to create a formal longitudinal curriculum with a certification in simulation-based education.

This mission reflects our commitment to enriching medical education through innovative and impactful simulation-based learning opportunities.
