Award of Excellence winners now online

The Student Council Award of Excellence is given in appreciation of students who have made a significant impact on student life and the broader community. We take nominations continuously throughout the year via this form and class reps vote monthly to select one awardee among grad student and med student nominations. Class reps themselves are not eligible for the award.

They are the heroes we need, even if they aren’t the heroes that we deserve.

Although the names are on a plaque in the Student Lounge that is updated every couple years, we’ve decided to publish the full list of names online as well. Congrats to current and past winners!

Amendment 1 to the Student Constitution passes

We are pleased to report that the first amendment to the Student Constitution has passed both a strict two-thirds vote of officers and a general body vote.

The amendment changes the budget period for Student Council from semesterly to yearly budgeting. That means student organizations only have to write one budget per year (less paperwork!), and instead of $350 per semester, the new default maximum will be $700 annually that could be reallocated to, e.g., any balance of events between the fall vs. the spring. The amendment changes nothing else, except for two new reporting tasks assigned to the SC Treasurers.

From Student Council’s perspective, this helps implement new guidelines that increase flexibility in what we can reimburse student organizations for. As we frequently voted on updates to the budget throughout the year, it doesn’t really affect how many times we have to vote on budget-related issues.

We’ve posted the new full text of the Constitution with the Amendment.

New Aron Hall Printer!

The StuCo Academic Tech committee is really excited to present the brand spanking new Aron Hall Printer! You’ll find it in the Aron lounge behind the glass doors, same payment system as the library. To use it:

New Twitter: @SinaiStudents

Brevity is a virtue—and so are shorter, more infrequent emails. In this spirit, we’ve decided to start a Twitter account, @SinaiStudents, for smaller, ad-hoc announcements.

You can already see it in the sidebar of this site, or if you like, you can…

We’ll also use this account to highlight the cool accomplishments of student groups on campus, and the events on our Student Activities Calendar. Want us to publicize something? DM or mention us, or if you like long-form, we have an email account of course.

A Facebook page for the group is also forthcoming, if you prefer ye olde Blue Wall. But the content on both streams will be very similar. Let us know what you think!

October Meeting Announcement

Our October Student Council Meeting will take place this Wednesday, October 8th, in the Student Lounge.  FMT will begin at 6 and General Body will begin at 7.  Please make every effort to attend.  If you cannot be there, please e-mail us and let us know.  Academic Technology will be doing the subcommittee presentations.

We have created open agenda time from 7:00-7:10 PM during the General Body meeting to ensure that we hear about the issues that are important to you.  Have something you would like us to address or comment on?  Just show up at 7:00 and let us know!  You may submit items for the formal agenda by emailing studentc@mssm.edu.

Echo 360 Update

Hi Folks,

As many of you are aware, the Echo360 system has been experiencing some issues recording lectures over the past week. The reason for this is that, in order to provide you with the highest quality recordings possible, Academic Technology recently upgraded to HD recording.  Unfortunately, there are still some bugs to work out with the HD recording process and therefore there were some glitches.

To ensure that lectures are captured for the time being, Echo360 recordings have been downgraded to Standard Definition. This should fix the problem until Academic Technology is able to figure out how to produce HD recordings more effectively and reliably.  If you continue to have problems with your lecture recordings, please make sure to report it to the IT help desk at ASCIT@mssm.edu.

We would like to sincerely apologize for any inconveniences caused by these issues, but please note that Student Council will continue to work closely with Academic Technology to push for a resolution. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Student Council – Academic Technology representatives!

Best,

Your Academic Technology Reps
