Sharen Rivas (MS1)

Co-Chair

Hey everyone! I’m Sharen (She/Her) and I was born and raised in Brooklyn and went to Vassar College for undergrad. My favorite thing about Sinai is its location. It was important for me to stay near friends and family and because I love the diversity that Sinai’s location offers for encountering various patient and physician populations. I am also super grateful that I chose Sinai, because my peers here are amazing and there’s always different ways to go around the city and blow off some steam after all the studying we do!

Daniel Rivera (MS1)

Co-chair

Hi my name is Daniel Rivera (He/Him) and I am one of the co-presidents for the LMSA here at Sinai! I was actually born here at Mount Sinai but did most of my growing up in Connecticut. I stayed close to home for college and graduated from Yale University in 2018. My favorite thing about Sinai has to be its location. It’s a 1-2 minute walk from central park and is right on the border of the Upper East Side and East Harlem – tons of good food, a quieter part of the city, and lots of opportunities to engage with the community, which is a big reason why so many of us chose to come to Sinai. My favorite place in New York is the walk along the water/West Side highway by Battery City – I highly, highly recommend checking it out in the spring/summer!

Nicole Muehleismen (MS1)

Co-chair

Hello! My name is Nicole (she/ella), and I am so excited to be part of the LMSA board this year! I was born in Mexico but grew up in Michigan until I moved to Baltimore for college at Johns Hopkins (Class of 2020). My favorite part of Sinai is definitely the people; my classmates are all inspiring, talented, and kind. I also love NYC, and I am especially grateful for the art in the form of murals, free museums, and events throughout the city.

Katherine Aliano Ruiz (MS1)

Co-chair

Hi! I’m Kat (she/her) and I’m super excited to be a part of LMSA this year! I was born and raised in Brazil before moving to New York to go to Barnard for undergrad. I love being back in New York for med school and being able to get to know the wonderful people at Sinai. My favorite thing about New York is definitely all the amazing food and museums spread out around the city.

Joseph Portelli (MS1)

Co-chair

Hey, I’m Joseph Portelli. I’m from Queens, NY and like most, my favorite thing about Sinai is the location. I’m an NYC native and feel blessed for the opportunity to stay in the city I know and love. I went to CUNY City College for undergrad, across Central Park. My favorite part about Sinai is the definitely the friends I made so far. So many people here are motivated and caring that I feel like I’m part of something larger here. And to join most of these people on the board for LMSA only makes me happier to call Sinai home.
