DREAMS is an organization of graduate students at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai dedicated to the support and advancement of disabled and chronically ill trainees in STEM. Our broad and inclusive community welcomes students self-identifying with visible and invisible disabilities, including but not limited to physical, sensory, cognitive, and mental health disabilities as well as chronic illness. There is no need to disclose one’s disability status, and allies are also welcome members of DREAMS. Additionally, we recognize that intersectional identities compound the obstacles faced by disabled individuals, and we commit to facilitating an environment that is diverse, inclusive, equitable, and anti-racist. Our organization seeks to provide peer-level advice and support on establishing accommodations, finding a supportive mentor, and advocating for yourself and others.
