oSTEM at Mount Sinai Mission Statement
Out in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics at Mount Sinai (oSTEM at Mount Sinai) is a chapter of a national student society, dedicated to increasing the participation of people who identify with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary, asexual, queer, (LGBTQIA+) or ally communities in disciplines related to science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).
The goals of the oSTEM at Mount Sinai chapter are:
(a) To serve and affirm people who identify as LGBTQIA+.
(b) To promote the participation from and development of LGBTQIA+ communities in STEM disciplines.
(c) To educate and develop students of STEM disciplines, preparing them for graduation and successful careers.
(d) To support and contribute to the dynamic network sustained by oSTEM Incorporated.
(e) To provide education, outreach, and professional resources to local communities when appropriate.
(f) To actively recruit and address the needs of diverse LGBTQIA+ groups within the Mount Sinai community, inclusive of those who are historically underrepresented with regards to gender, gender identity or expression, and ethnic background.
