Heart Cell Lab – Fall 2013

In collaboration with the medical student group MedDocs, we put on our annual Heart Cell Lab for local high school students. This event provides a unique experience for East Harlem students to understand the science of the heart at the cellular level. With cardiomyocytes provided by Fadi Akar, MD and Dongzhu Jin, MD, PhD,  we were able to demonstrate what heart cells look like under the microscope. We also were able to view contraction of individual cells which was exciting for everyone. The students enjoyed the lab and showed a great interest in both the science and medical aspects of the foundation of the heart. Already looking forward to next year!
