Career and Professional Development Groups:
Student Career and Professional Development (CaPD) Groups help students further their knowledge and skills related to a specific medical specialty and/or career path.
These groups offer opportunities for students to network with faculty, learn skills that may enhance their understanding of a specific specialty or path and stay updated with changes and trends in specialties and career paths. Student CaPD Groups allow students opportunities to gain leadership experience, explore and develop their career interests and enhance their network and applications for future careers.
Graduate Education Specific CaPD must:
- Work closely with the Office of Career Services and Strategy to ensure that events are cohesive with the Office’s programming.
- If working with alumni, the student group must connect with the Office of Alumni Relations and the Office of Career Services and Strategy to ensure events are cohesive with the Offices’ programming.
- Hold at least one event per term
Medical Education Specific CaPD must:
- Work closely with the Career and Professional Development Team to ensure that events are cohesive with the Office’s programming.
- Hold one information session with experts in the field

These student groups are dedicated to promoting social change, supporting community needs, and engaging in advocacy efforts aligned with shared values and causes. They create opportunities for students to take meaningful action through education, outreach, and collaboration. The mission of these groups is to empower members to address societal challenges, foster a sense of responsibility, and build partnerships that drive positive impact within and beyond the ISMMS community.
Groups in this category focus on:
- Advocating for marginalized or underserved populations.
- Raising awareness of equity issues.
- Organizing community service and outreach initiatives.
- Fostering dialogue and positive action around important societal topics related to biomedical or health education, research, or patient care delivery.
